The National Western Stockshow is an event that's been around for more than 100 years and requires vast coordination to accommodate its expansive events, from rodeo attractions such as bull riding, barrel racing and mutton bustin' to horse shows and livestock competitions. Event organizers are charged with the responsibility of accounting for entrants and ensuring that events run on time while security officials are responsible for the safety of attendants.
At the 2012 stock show, security guards were responsible for more than 636,000 attendants over the course of the 16-day run. In order to maintain control of crowds and prevent dangerous behavior, security can use Motorola portable radios to stay connected and coordinate efforts.
Officials circulating the grounds can radio for back-up if attendants appear to be intoxicated or are behaving inappropriately. At large events, security guards have the difficult task of cracking down on illegal activities, such as underage drinking. With the Motorola HT1250, guards can use one of the 128 channels to communicate with other officers while they wait with an apprehended individual.
The radio offers superior call clarity, so officers can still hear important messages and respond quickly even while the crowds cheer throughout the event.
